Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) with the chemical formula (C8H8) x·(C4H6) y·(C3H3N) z is an engineering thermoplastic resin (polymer) obtained from the polymerization of Styrene and Acrylonitrile in the presence of Polybutadiene.
The composition ratio of each material varies depending on the desired property, so that this composition can vary between 15 to 35% for Acrylonitrile and 5 to 30% for Butadiene and 40 to 60% for Styrene.
The presence of styrene gives the plastic a shiny (polished) and impermeable surface. Also, Polybutadiene, which is a Rubber material, increases its hardness and impact resistance even at low temperatures, and Acrylonitrile increases the strength and chemical resistance of the polymer.
